JournalCon is Coming!

Mark your calendars: JournalCon is coming to Hotel Helix (The self-styled Logan Circle "pop-art sensation") from August 20-22. Never heard of the conference? Neither have I. Here's the conference's own description:

JournalCon is an incredible — and increasingly infamous — gathering of online journalers, diarists, personal webloggers and other web writers. People from all walks of life who often have nothing in common except for an inexplicable compulsion to splatter the details of their lives across the Internet for all the world to see.

A quick perusal of the 2004 attendees reveals most of the people coming run sites that reminded me of some of the UrbanDictionary.com definitions for "blog":
  • "A website featuring a long series of words too boring to actually read."

  • "A meandering, blatantly uninteresting online diary that gives the author the illusion that people are interested in their stupid, pathetic life."

  • "A website operated by someone who thinks the world actually cares what he ate for breakfast, what his girlfriend said, what bands he listens to, and what he had to do at work.

Well, perhaps those are a little harsh. But the Journalcon people are certainly splattering details. In the meantime, I suppose I'll keep substituting "website" when I mean "blog".
