Union Protest Wednesday

If you'll be in the area of the 600 block of 14th street around noon Wednesday, you might encounter a few protestors:

The American Federation of Government Employees is sponsoring a protest rally outside the Federal Labor Relations Authority headquarters (607 14th St NW) at noon Wednesday. In the union's announcement, John Gage, president of AFGE, accused the FLRA and the Federal Service Impasses Panel of issuing rulings biased against organized labor. The impasses panel recently ruled against AFGE on 25 of 26 contested issues in a contract dispute at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.(From the W. Post)

Also: memo to self - don't bury an abused indentured servant in the basement, eventually PBS will find him: " The well-preserved remains of a teenager were found in a small grave beneath some rubbish along a basement wall of a Puritan house dating from the 1660s. ... A forensic anthropologist at the Smithsonian Institution's Museum of Natural History, Douglas Owsley, says the young man was about 16 and was 5-foot-5. He suffered from tuberculosis and worked so hard that he had herniated discs and other back injuries. An infection in his rotting teeth might have caused his death. He had 19 cavities. ... "

Unfortunately, this kind of abuse is totally normal for the time period. It got pretty bad, and many people quit coming over as indentured servents. One, of many, factors that lead to the slave-trade boom in colonial america in the 1750's or so...
